Appearance:
Lucian cuts an imposing figure, at the high end of average in height, slim and athletic in build and extremely scruffy in appearance. He's pale-skinned and his brown hair is long and unruly, usually just brushed off to one side or otherwise barely tucked out of his face. He sports a rough goatee well on its way into beard-dom. He prefers to go shirtless most of the time, covering up with a long black leather trenchcoat with a fur collar. His usual outfit includes sturdy pants and boots, and there is a pendant with a green gem set in the center of a cross on a chain around his neck (obviously made of white gold rather than silver). When he is angry, utilizing his lycan powers or otherwise on the verge of transforming, he grows fangs and his normally brown eyes turn an intense blue.
His lycan form is a tall, ripped, terrifying catlike-wolf creature covered in dark hair and capable of walking on either two limbs or four. Roughly the size and strength of a bear, the lycan can effortlessly overpower a human or vampire and attacks with teeth, claws, and immense strength.

Personality:
Lucian's gruff appearance and his terrifying beastial form betray what is actually a thoughtful, intelligent man. He is charismatic, noble and far more sophistocated than your average werewolf. Quite the gentleman, Lucian insists on manners and courtesies (such as mercy and pity) that he believes separate higher creatures from mindless monsters. To him, anything that can think and feel is equally deserving of life and basic rights, and he despises both arrogance and inequality. He's deeply devoted to his allies and makes a fine leader when the situation calls for one-- his charisma and his amiable nature make him well-liked by others. He cares deeply for those he views as his brothers and will never give an order that he's not prepared to follow himself.
Politeness aside, he's not above using violence as an equalizing factor, though. Lucian doesn't flinch a bit at bloodshed and can be quite merciless when the situation calls for it. When he loses his temper, he's a terrifying force to be reckoned with. He is singleminded once he is focused on a goal, no matter how difficult the task or what kind of danger it will involve. Basically, Lucian's a great guy to have on your side, and a terrible guy to have opposing you. He is unfortunately a bit too trusting of his allies and focuses his attention on enemies from the outside-- his greatest vulnerability is failing to detect threats on his own side.
Lucian is generally a pleasant individual, but he doesn't screw around-- has little patience for people who do not pull their own weight or take initiative for themselves and others. He also harbors a quite understandable distaste for vampires.

Abilities:

Lucian is quite thoughtful and in his moments of quiet contemplation, comes up with some pretty good ideas. His charisma makes him a natural leader and he's very loyal to a cause he dedicates himself to. Though he is incredibly strict and doesn't tolerate slacking, he takes very good care of those who follow him.

Though he's a talented fighter in his own right, Lucian's skills are in no way hampered by his lycan (werewolf) heritage. He's agile and alert in his human form and a bloodthirsty, sharp-fanged, monstrous behemoth in his lycan form. Lucian's breed of lycan can transform at will, any time of the month, and keep their wits about them when they do. They can resist the draw of the full moon if they care to, though when the moon is out they become much stronger and more animalistic even in human form. Lucian has a high injury tolerance, quick healing capabilities, and is much stronger than your average human.

... normally. In Manhattan, Lucian can still transform at will and still keeps his mind, but the change will exhaust him and he can only pull it off (and back) a few times per day. His overall strength is greatly weakened and his healing capabilities have slowed down to only slightly more than a human's. Also, though his bite will normally infect any human and transform them into a lycan, it has become harmless in Manhattan. Well, not harmless, but non-infectious.


Weaknesses:

Lucian has all the traditional weaknesses of a traditional werewolf-- silver in any form is deadly to him and being pricked or shot by a small amount of it prevents him from transforming. A large amount will straight up kill him. Fire is another weakness, and even a powerful immortal can't survive being beheaded, mangled to bits or otherwise horrifically wounded. In his weakened state, his healing capabilities are severely hampered and any bad injury will put him down for the count. Though he can eat any variety of meat, he must feed on blood every so often in order to keep his strength up.

He is also weakened by the very courtesies that he will grant to his enemies-- mercy and pity are important to him and he likes to believe that he can trust those he places his faith in, even against his better judgment. Okay... not so much against his better judgment as against EVERY INDICATION TO THE CONTRARY that he is being INCREDIBLY DUMB by trusting certain people. Though he tries to keep obviously untrustworthy people on a leash by rewarding them for their service, he's the kind of guy who gets stabbed in the back due to hoping the people he knows (and even knows to be backstabbers) will keep the same morals that he does. They often don't. This ALWAYS ends badly for him.

When he loses his temper or when there is a goal he is primarily focused on, his inhibitions go out the window and he will wildly fling himself and his allies into desperate, dangerous or even suicidal situations in a blind rage. Also, don't bring up his dead wife. Just don't.

Manhattanite or outsider? Outsider

History:

NOTE: In Underworld-verse, "werewolves" and "lycans" are used interchangeably. The original lycans were mindless animals, trapped in wolf form and never to return to their human state. Lucian's breed are the traditional man-turns-into-wolf-and-back-again type.

Though they shared a common ancestor, in the 15th century, lycans were kept as slave labor and attack dogs by the more powerful vampires. Lucian was born into servitude in a vampire coven, though he was in a human form at birth and in fact the first lycan ever capable of assuming a human form. Against his better judgment, vampire elder Viktor decided to raise the child as a pet. He trained Lucian to fight and used his blood to create more lycans like him, more useful for manual labor. Though he was still a slave, Lucian lived a far more glamorous life than the others of his kind, allowed to walk free through the coven and even given a job as a blacksmith. The only stipulation for his favor was that he wear the same spiked collar as the other slaves, to prevent him from transforming and keep him under the vampire's control.

In adulthood, Lucian fell in love with Viktor's rebellious daughter Sonja. The two of them secretly married and carried on a sexual relationship when they could find time to meet. Sonja acted disgusted by him in public to avoid suspicion, though Lucian began to dream of a life where he and the vampire he loved could be together freely. In his spare time he crafted a key for his collar, though Sonja begged him to keep it on lest her father discover it and punish him. The key came in handy later as Lucian was forced to transform in order to rescue Sonja from a wild lycan attack-- but no matter the reason why, he had removed the collar he was ordered to leave on. Blinded by fury at the "betrayal", Viktor ordered Lucian be administered 30 lashes and be stripped of his position of favor in the coven. You'll notice a pattern of Viktor being blinded by fury.

Lucian became a slave like the rest of his kind. Now seeing the full plight of his people and disgusted at their treatment, Lucian grew restless. His natural charisma and his stirring words made him admirable to his fellow lycans, and bought him their loyalty for a rebellion. With Sonja's help, he and a group of slaves escaped the castle and fled into the woods, where he rallied human slaves into joining his army. He even earned the respect of a massive pack of wild lycans and added them to his ranks as well. As they prepared for battle, word reached Lucian that his relationship with Sonja had been discovered and she had been branded a traitor. Desperate to save his wife, Lucian returned to the coven, broke her out of her room and slaughtered dozens of vampires before the two of them were captured by Viktor. Sonja begged her father to spare Lucian and revealed that she was pregnant with his child-- predictably, Viktor was not happy about this and it disgusted him so greatly that he sentenced her to execution. Viktor's sort of an asshole.

Lucian and Sonja were chained apart from each other in a room, where Lucian was lashed to a bloody pulp and forced to watch Sonja burned to death by sunlight. Enraged at the deaths of his wife and unborn child, Lucian broke free, stole Sonja's necklace from her charred body and went into a berserker rage. His lycan armies attacked the castle to rescue him and made short work of the vampires, while Lucian chased down Viktor, shoved a sword through his mouth and knocked him down into the bay below. (Viktor would later get better.)

The ensuing war between the vampires and the lycans would last centuries, Lucian going down in history as the bloodthirsty lycan leader that no vampire could ever hunt down. Some several hundred years into the war, Lucian was finally cornered in a burning castle and trapped with a power-hungry wussy of a vampire rather conspicuously named Kraven. Lucian offered him a deal-- if Kraven helped Lucian fake his death, Kraven could use the tale of Lucian's defeat to propel him up into the ranks of vampires. In return, Kraven had to be at Lucian's beck and call if he ever needed another favor. Lucian carved off the brand burned onto his arm, gave it to Kraven as "proof", and then disappeared for the next few centuries.

Lucian led the lycans from the shadows until rumors of his reappearance began to surface in the 2000s. As he hunted down and bit a human surgeon named Michael Corvin, he was spotted by Viktor's adoptive daughter, the vampire assassin Selene. Selene dedicated herself to pursuing Lucian and decided to protect Michael until she could find out what the lycans were up to. She didn't do a very good job and Michael, now a lycan, was snatched up by a few of Lucian's men and taken captive. Lucian was quite polite to his hostage, even taking the time to quietly explain to him the circumstances of the beginning of the war and the story of his dead vampire bride.

To make a long and really, really convoluted story short, Lucian and Kraven planned to turn Michael and his special-wecial blood into a vampire/lycan hybrid to put an end to the war. Of course, with a name like Kraven you're definitely not trustworthy, and he "shockingly" stabbed Lucian in the back, shot him and Michael with silver nitrate bullets and left them both for dead. Selene arrived just in time to hold the dying Michael in her arms. Noticing the OH SO FAMILIAR relationship between the vampire and the lycan, Lucian decided to send Viktor one last "fuck you" by advising Selene to bite Michael, saving his life and transforming him into the hybrid Viktor feared so much.

Then Lucian died. And woke up in Manhattan.
